This section presents state and territory statistics about incidents of victimisation for a selected range of offences that came to the attention of state and territory police during the period 1 January to 31 December 2015. Note that Assault data is not published for Victoria or Queensland (see Explanatory Notes paragraphs 86-87).

In Australia between 2014 and 2015:
There was little change in the number of Homicide victims across most states and territories. The largest numerical movement was a 12 victim increase (33%) in Western Australia;
Victims of Assault increased in all selected states and territories except New South Wales (decrease of less than 1% or 436 victims) and the Northern Territory (decrease of 4% or 298 victims);
Sexual assault victims increased in every state and territory except Tasmania (decrease of 30% or 67 victims) and the Northern Territory (decrease of 2% or 10 victims);
Kidnapping and Abduction victims increased or were steady in most states and territories, although New South Wales decreased by 16% (48 victims);
The number of Robbery victims declined in New South Wales (decrease of 24% or 920 victims), South Australia (decrease of 23% or 170 victims), the Australian Capital Territory (decrease of 21% or 35 victims) and Western Australia (decrease of less than 1% or 4 victims) - for each of those states and territories, the number of Robbery victims decreased to their lowest level since the beginning of the time series in 2010;
Victims of Blackmail/extortion either increased or was steady in most states and territories, although there was a 35% (36 victims) decrease in Queensland; and
Victims of all three property crime offence groups (Unlawful entry with intent, Motor vehicle theft and Other theft) increased in the Australian Capital Territory, Tasmania, Western Australia and Victoria.
